Key Things to Know

  • The team accumulated €12,500 in total fines Friday following an earlier €7,500 penalty for an unsafe release.
  • Stewards rejected Audi's explanation regarding split garages, citing regulations prohibiting obstructions over car parts.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Audi received a €5,000 ($5,600) fine during Friday practice at the Mexico City Grand Prix for covering parts of Gabriel Bortoleto's car. Stewards penalized the team under Article B3.3.1 after personnel used a soft cover to obscure battery pack work and transported the car's floor under a large sheet through the pit lane.

The penalty followed an earlier €7,500 fine in FP1 for an unsafe release involving rookie Freddie Slater, bringing Audi's Friday fines to €12,500. Neither penalty carries a grid drop for Bortoleto or Nico Hülkenberg, leaving both drivers eligible to compete unchanged.
