The Boston Red Sox should only trade Franklin Arias if they can get a massive star in return.

According to reporting from The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey, the Boston Red Sox would need to be blown away by an offer to consider trading top prospect Franklin Arias. While a weak upcoming free-agent market may drive trade activity across MLB, the Red Sox are reportedly committed to being highly selective regarding any potential deal involving their 20-year-old shortstop.
Writer Katie Manganelli of BoSox Injection argues that Boston should only trade Arias for an elite, controlled talent comparable to Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz, whom Boston previously targeted. Arias posted a breakout 2026 minor league campaign, hitting .323 with 25 home runs across 117 games.
