James Garner believes Everton have a real chance to end their trophy drought after progressing to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. The midfielder scored the opening goal in Everton's 3-1 victory against Newcastle United on Thursday night, alongside strikes from Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry. The win secured David Moyes' side a quarter-final clash against League Two side Fleetwood Town.
Everton have not won a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 1995 and have never won the League Cup. The 25-year-old Garner, who is returning to full fitness following an early-season groin issue, noted that winning silverware would be significant for the squad, club, and supporters.
