The Islanders never looked like the Oilers’ equal on Saturday.

The New York Islanders suffered a 4-0 blowout loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday after unraveling in the second period. Forward Emil Heineman was ejected just 2:22 into the game for a knee-on-knee hit on Isaac Howard, leaving the Islanders shorthanded early. Edmonton capitalized during the second period, scoring three goals through a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins pair and a Vasily Podkolzin tally to take full control of the contest.
Mathieu Joseph added an empty-net goal late in the third period, while goaltender Tristan Jarry secured a shutout for Edmonton. Head coach Pete DeBoer noted that his depleted squad appeared fatigued and made uncharacteristic mistakes. The Islanders struggled offensively without injured forward Mathew Barzal, generating minimal pressure throughout the game as Edmonton's potent attack easily overwhelmed them.
