The Houston Astros have hired former major league pitcher Randy Flores as their new general manager, replacing Dana Brown following his dismissal in late August. Flores, 51, previously pitched for the Texas Rangers and spent over a decade working in the St. Louis Cardinals front office prior to accepting the executive role in Houston.
According to reporting cited from Chandler Rome, Astros owner Jim Crane initially targeted Matt Kleine of the Milwaukee Brewers for the vacancy after the World Series. Crane pivoted to hiring Flores after negotiations with Kleine stalled regarding salary or title demands.
