Though other second base options will be available this offseason, none of them will give the Pirates the same bang for their buck as Brandon Lowe.

Brandon Glick of Rum Bunter argues that the Pittsburgh Pirates must prioritize re-signing pending free agent second baseman Brandon Lowe this offseason. Addressing a projection by The Athletic's Jim Bowden, which suggested Gleyber Torres as a potential replacement option in Pittsburgh, Glick views signing Torres as an undesirable downgrade compared to retaining Lowe.
According to Bowden's market projections, Torres could secure a two-year, $42 million deal, while Lowe is forecast at three years, $45 million. Glick asserts that if Lowe commands approximately $15 million annually as projected, the Pirates should aggressively pursue re-signing him rather than turning to alternatives.
