Injuries opened the door, but they do not explain the six uncapped players in Rassie Erasmus’s Springbok squad. The tour is part of a longer plan: build Test-ready depth while the senior core continues to set the standard.

Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus has named six uncapped players in his 37-man squad for South Africa's upcoming away Tests against Italy, France, and Ireland. The selections are part of a long-term strategy to build Test-ready squad depth while the experienced core remains intact. Injuries to senior players Cheslin Kolbe, Eben Etzebeth, André Esterhuizen, and Handré Pollard opened the door for the newcomers, though Erasmus stressed they are genuine contenders for the future rather than temporary placeholders.
The uncapped group features Yaqeen Ahmed, Sebastian de Klerk, Luan Giliomee, Markus Muller, Riley Norton, and Emmanuel Tshituka. Erasmus noted that all six prospects have been tracked for two seasons across their domestic franchises and age-grade tournaments. South Africa currently leads the Nations Championship southern hemisphere table with 15 points, and Erasmus aims to give the young players crucial experience ahead of the 2027 World Cup without lowering the team's competitive standards.
