The Pittsburgh Penguins have gotten off to an inconsistent start to this season, currently sitting in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division with a 5-7-2 record through their first 14 contests. Not only that, but the Penguins are considerably shorthanded right…

NHL Insider Darren Dreger reported that Pittsburgh Penguins veteran center Evgeni Malkin could emerge as a trade target for contending teams in the new year. With Pittsburgh struggling to a 5-7-2 start, Dreger noted that Malkin's contractual no-trade list is expected to narrow to a three-team list in January, potentially opening the door for a departure.
Malkin signed a one-year, $5.5 million extension to remain in Pittsburgh through the 2026-27 season and has recorded six goals and five assists through 13 games. The Penguins are dealing with multiple injuries, including veteran Bryan Rust being placed on Injured Reserve, raising questions about a looming rebuild.
