Despite allowing five goals on 15 shots during Saturday's stunning loss to the Blues, Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan said the blame shouldn't be placed on goaltender John Gibson.

Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan defended goaltender John Gibson following a 5-4 collapse against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday afternoon. Despite Detroit blowing a 4-2 third-period lead and Gibson allowing five goals on 15 shots, McLellan stated that the defeat should not be blamed on the goaltender after breaking down the difficult nature of each goal allowed.
St. Louis rallied with three unanswered third-period goals, including tallies from Pavel Buchnevich, Justin Barron, and Aleksanteri Kaskimaki's game-winner just 18 seconds later. The loss brought Gibson's record to 4-5-1 with a 3.37 goals-against average and a .860 save percentage on the season.
