Afghanistan have reached a historic milestone in international cricket, breaking into the top six of the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings for the first time and moving ahead of former world champions Sri Lanka, England and the West Indies.
Afghanistan have achieved their highest-ever position in international 50-over cricket, climbing to sixth place in the latest ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings. By surpassing Sri Lanka, the national side entered the world's top six for the first time, having already moved ahead of former world champions England and the West Indies, as well as Bangladesh.
The rankings milestone follows an impressive stretch of results, including a 4-0 away series victory over Ireland and an unbeaten tri-series campaign against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Since their 2009 ODI debut, Afghanistan have won 96 of their 191 matches, further cementing their progress following milestone campaigns at recent global ICC tournaments.
