’This was a completely unnecessary post’ ’Have some shame’ ’What an unprofessional post coming from a FORMULA 1 TEAM’

Mercedes faced significant criticism from Formula 1 fans online after posting a video of team principal Toto Wolff consoling a dejected George Russell at the Mexico City Grand Prix. The post came shortly after Russell suffered a race-ruining battery issue on the same day his teammate Kimi Antonelli clinched the Drivers' Championship by finishing third behind winner Max Verstappen and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton.
Supporters on social media heavily condemned the video, labelling the interaction as disingenuous public relations and insensitive toward Russell. In post-race comments to Sky F1, Wolff admitted the team let Russell down with persistent car issues and pledged full support to provide him with competitive equipment for future title contention.
