Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has addressed former striker Billy Sharp's decision to come out of retirement and join AFC Rushden & Diamonds on a short-term deal. Sharp, who announced his retirement last month, agreed to return to his former loan club to help them in their upcoming FA Cup fixture against Burton Albion due to an injury crisis.
Wilder expressed surprise at Sharp's original retirement, praising the veteran forward's fitness levels and noting his enduring connection to the club he represented early in his career.
