Caleb Martin’s resurgence is exactly what the Mavericks’ defense needs

Writer Will Miller argues that Caleb Martin's strong two-way play could elevate the Dallas Mavericks' defense into an elite unit. After missing the team's first four games with a thumb sprain, Martin returned to score 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting over two appearances. Miller notes that maintaining competent offensive play will guarantee Martin consistent rotation minutes, providing Dallas with crucial point-of-attack perimeter defense.

Miller highlights that while Dallas features strong rim protection from Daniel Gafford, Cooper Flagg, and Zaccharie Risacher, smaller guards leave the perimeter vulnerable. With over $19 million remaining on his contract, Martin's continued defensive resurgence could help Dallas recoup value from his acquisition.
