Detroit Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris reiterated that the organization plans to supplement its young core through targeted free-agent signings rather than major splurges. Harris emphasized that any offseason additions are intended to address roster vulnerabilities without blocking developing homegrown talent. MLB.com's Jason Beck analyzed potential areas of need where Detroit could use help, including infield defense, a right-handed outfield bat, starting rotation depth, and bullpen reinforcements.
Potential infield targets to boost defense on short-term deals include Mauricio Dubón and Ha-Seong Kim, while Jazz Chisholm Jr. could be an option at second base. In the outfield, Detroit may pursue a right-handed platoon bat like Randal Grichuk rather than a long-term commitment. On the mound, the Tigers could consider veteran starters for depth and must address relief pitching, including an upcoming contract decision regarding Kenley Jansen.
