The Houston Astros made a mess of Jake Meyers trade market, and now they stand to lose him for absolutely nothing following their latest roster move.

The Houston Astros have designated outfielder Jake Meyers for assignment to clear 40-man roster space ahead of free agency. The move followed a difficult season for Meyers, which was hampered by a kneecap injury and poor offensive production.
Writer Eric Cole argues that designating Meyers exposes past front-office mismanagement by former general manager Dana Brown. Cole contends the Astros previously held unrealistic trade demands when interest was high, leaving new general manager Randy Flores to risk losing Meyers for nothing.
