The Story in 60 Seconds

The St. Louis Cardinals have re-signed left-handed pitcher and Bridgeton native Josh Fleming to a minor-league contract. According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the move is designed to provide starting rotation depth at the minor league level. The 30-year-old made six starts for Class AAA Memphis after previously pitching in one major league game for the Toronto Blue Jays last season.

Fleming originally debuted with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020 under current Cardinals president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom before spending time with the Pittsburgh Pirates. With Hunter Dobbins expected to miss most of the 2027 season, Curt Bishop reports that the signing provides depth as the Cardinals explore free-agent rotation upgrades such as Dustin May or Shane Bieber.
