The Minnesota Twins have officially extended a qualifying offer to starting catcher Ryan Jeffers. The one-year deal is valued at $23.15 million, and Jeffers has until November 17 to decide whether to accept the offer or become a free agent. If he declines and signs elsewhere, the Twins would be entitled to draft pick compensation.
Writer Benjamin Jones argues that accepting the one-year offer would be the best option for Jeffers and Minnesota. Jones notes that the $23.15 million salary would temporarily make Jeffers the highest-paid catcher in baseball by annual average value, while serving as a bridge for the Twins to prospect Vahn Lackey.
