The Colorado Avalanche overcame an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 at the United Center on Monday. After Chicago took a 2-0 lead through Wyatt Kaiser and Roman Kantserov, Colorado rallied with two goals each from Nazem Kadri and Jaden Schwartz, followed by a late empty-net goal from Devon Toews. Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 21 shots to secure his sixth win in seven games.
Colorado also responded physically after Blackhawks rookie Artyom Levshunov caught superstar defenseman Cale Makar with a high elbow. Martin Necas immediately confronted Levshunov in defense of Makar, while Gabriel Landeskog and teammates delivered physical responses throughout the game. Makar remained in the contest, and Colorado closed out the victory while maintaining a perfect penalty kill.
