What it would take for the Royals to bring two of the best shortstops in baseball together

Writer Brian Burrows explores a potential trade scenario where the Kansas City Royals acquire Cincinnati Reds superstar shortstop Elly De La Cruz to pair with Bobby Witt Jr. According to reporting from Jim Bowden cited in the piece, the Reds are open to considering trade offers for De La Cruz, who remains under team control through the 2029 Major League Baseball season.

Burrows suggests a realistic trade package would center on third baseman Maikel Garcia, whose team-friendly contract and club control through 2031 would appeal to Cincinnati's payroll constraints. The proposed deal would also require Kansas City to part with top prospects such as Kendry Chourio or Angiebel Gomez plus an additional top-eight organizational prospect.
