Calgary Flames legend Jarome Iginla announced that he is dealing with serious neurological health issues, speaking in an interview with Sportsnet's Eric Francis. While doctors have not confirmed the exact cause, Iginla believes the symptoms may stem from a cobalt hip replacement he received years ago. Medications prescribed following the procedure have negatively impacted his speech and energy, though he remains hopeful of a full recovery.
Medical specialists speculate that cobalt-chromium debris from the implant entered his bloodstream over time, potentially triggering the neurological problems. Tests also revealed elevated mercury levels in his blood, which doctors are currently investigating. Iginla spent 16 seasons in Calgary, becoming the franchise's all-time scoring leader.
