Kane's agent, Dan Milstein, confirmed on "The Sheet with Jeff Marek" that Kane decided to pursue opportunities in Russia after failing to secure an NHL contract for the 2026-27 season.

Milstein stated that Kane is very close to finalizing a deal with an unnamed KHL club, with an official announcement expected soon. Across his 1,001 career regular-season NHL games with Atlanta, Winnipeg, Buffalo, San Jose, Edmonton, and Vancouver, Kane recorded 339 goals and 309 assists.
