LeBron James needed two baskets against the Pistons to reach a number no NBA player had ever hit.

Philadelphia 76ers forward LeBron James made NBA history on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons by becoming the first player to reach 16,000 career regular-season field goals. James entered the game needing two baskets to hit the milestone and officially achieved it during the contest. The achievement extends his lead over second-placed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time field goals list.
The 41-year-old accomplished the feat in his 24th NBA season and his first with Philadelphia after signing a reported two-year, $8 million deal in July. James previously broke Abdul-Jabbar's total field goals record in March while with the Los Angeles Lakers before reaching the 16,000-basket plateau as a Sixer.
