Former Southampton forward Kevin Phillips has urged the club to pursue Leeds United striker Lukas Nmecha ahead of the January transfer window. Phillips argues that Southampton needs more attacking depth due to ongoing fitness concerns surrounding striker Cyle Larin, noting that Nmecha possesses the physical presence and quality to bolster the team's forward line.
Nmecha joined Leeds on a free transfer from Wolfsburg in June 2025 on a two-year deal and reportedly looks set to depart Elland Road in January. Southampton sporting director Johannes Spors stated he is satisfied with the squad but is routinely assessing available striker options, amid reported interest from Bundesliga clubs.
