The Broncos have been handed a big forward pack boost, with Brendan Piakura being given clearance to return to the field after concussion issues threatened to end his career.
Brisbane Broncos forward Brendan Piakura has received medical clearance to return to rugby league following specialist brain scanning in Melbourne. The 24-year-old was limited to 12 appearances in 2026 after suffering multiple concussions, including a fifth serious incident against the Penrith Panthers in Round 20. Broncos coach Michael Maguire confirmed the club will focus on modifying Piakura's tackling technique ahead of his pre-season return to reduce further injury risks.
Meanwhile, Wests Tigers captain Api Koroisau faces potential surgery and a delayed start to the 2027 season after suffering a facial fracture during Fiji's World Cup match against New Zealand. Additionally, the Perth Bears announced the appointment of former player Tony Rea as their new chief executive officer following Anthony De Ceglie's departure.
