Despite getting off to a slow start by his own standards Wednesday night against the Sacramento Kings, the NBA’s leading scorer this season, Luka Doncic, would come alive and lead his team to victory. Facing the injury-ridden and dysfunctional Kings…

Luka Doncic recorded his third consecutive 40-point game, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 116-103 victory over the Sacramento Kings. Coach JJ Redick explained that the team has intentionally reduced Doncic's workload by playing him off the ball and setting screens rather than having him bring the ball up against pressure on every possession. Doncic posted 40 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists to extend the Lakers' winning streak to three.
The performance marked Doncic's fifth 40-point game of the season, taking his total to 308 points through eight games, the highest NBA tally over that span in 38 years. Doncic also became the first player in league history to register six consecutive games with at least 35 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five 3-pointers. Center Walker Kessler contributed 15 points and four blocks as the Lakers improved to 7-2.
