The Athletic's Peter Baugh suggests the New Jersey Devils should explore a potential trade for Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov. While Baugh noted a deal remains unlikely, he argued that New Jersey should at least consider pursuing the 33-year-old forward if he expresses interest in joining the team following his unexpected trade request from Tampa Bay.

A trade for Kucherov would reportedly take the Devils out of contention for other major pending unrestricted free agents, such as Quinn Hughes. The proposal comes shortly after New Jersey acquired goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets in a blockbuster move on October 23, 2026.
