The Story in 60 Seconds

Former Raiders play-by-play announcer Greg Papa revealed that an offer from Raiders owner Mark Davis to light the Al Davis Memorial Torch is driving his recovery from leukemia. Speaking from a hospital rehab room with radio host JT the Brick, Papa shared that Davis reached out immediately following his July 2025 diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, repairing their long-strained relationship.

Papa, who currently serves as the radio play-by-play voice for the San Francisco 49ers, previously called Raiders games for 21 years before departing in 2019. Davis invited Papa to visit Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to light the torch whenever he is healthy enough, an gesture Papa described as a major daily motivation in his fight against the illness.
