The Story in 60 Seconds

Spanish football gathered in Navahermosa on Thursday for the funeral of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, who died at age 30 following an on-field collision. De Miguel suffered commotio cordis after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a second-division match on Monday. Attendees included Spain manager Luis de la Fuente, Tenerife teammates and executives, and representatives from clubs across the country.

A preliminary autopsy indicated chest trauma from the collision caused his death. While the Spanish Federation canceled Copa del Rey games, LaLiga postponed only the fixtures involving Tenerife, Andorra, and De Miguel's former club Castellón. Clubs and players across Spain paid tribute through moments of silence and fundraising efforts for his surviving family.
