Former Formula 1 drivers Damon Hill and Juan Pablo Montoya have both stated that McLaren driver Oscar Piastri remains potential world champion material despite enduring a difficult 2026 season. Speaking on F1TV after the Mexican Grand Prix, Hill called Piastri's dip in form a mystery while Montoya affirmed his strong belief that the Australian has the capability to become a world champion.
Piastri has struggled to adapt to the 2026 regulation changes, seeing his share of McLaren's championship points drop to 39.5 percent alongside teammate Lando Norris.
