It's 40 years since the legendary manager left the Dons after eight trophy-laden years.

On the 40th anniversary of Alex Ferguson leaving Aberdeen for Manchester United on November 6, 1986, figures involved reflected on the historic move. The departure initially shocked Aberdeen supporters, with some fans predicting at the time that the manager would regret moving to the English First Division club after eight trophy-laden seasons at Pittodrie.
Broadcaster Roddy Forsyth broke the story after locating Ferguson and United chairman Martin Edwards at an Aberdeen airport hotel. Despite the initial shock and disappointment among supporters and squad members like captain Willie Miller, Ferguson went on to win 38 trophies during his 26-year tenure at Old Trafford.
