The Story in 60 Seconds

Tottenham Hotspur executive Vinai Venkatesham revealed on The Sports Agents podcast that failing to prepare for relegation last season would have been irresponsible. Spurs narrowly avoided the drop on the final day following consecutive 17th-place finishes, enduring a campaign in which Thomas Frank, Igor Tudor, and Roberto De Zerbi all managed the team. Venkatesham also addressed Frank's dismissal in February, describing the Danish manager as a complete gentleman.

Following the close call, Spurs backed De Zerbi with nearly £400 million in summer signings, including top target Mateus Fernandes. Despite the heavy spending, Tottenham sat bottom of the Premier League after six games, which Venkatesham admitted was frustrating before the squad responded with three consecutive league victories.
