The Royals are likely going to make some trades this offseason, but their current ace needs to be off the table in almost any deal.

Kings of Kauffman writer Brian Burrows argues that the Kansas City Royals should keep starting pitcher Michael Wacha this offseason rather than trade him. Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer named Wacha the Royals' top trade asset due to his recent 200-plus inning, 3.32 ERA campaign and his team-friendly contract that includes a club option for 2028.
Burrows contends Kansas City cannot afford to lose Wacha given uncertainties across their rotation, including Seth Lugo's recent struggles and Cole Ragans' expected absence until mid-season. The writer believes the Royals lack the pitching depth to replace Wacha and must retain him to remain competitive in 2027.
