Pundit Jamie Carragher warned that Newcastle United could face a long, tough season following their 1-0 Premier League defeat against Everton at St James' Park. A goal from Thierno Barry handed Everton their first away victory of the season, leaving Newcastle in 13th place and just four points above the relegation zone after losing four of their last five matches across all competitions.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher criticized the team's flat and uninspiring style of play under manager Matthias Jaissle. Newcastle's poor home record continued with the loss, marking seven home league defeats in 2026 and extending their streak without a clean sheet at St James' Park to 14 matches ahead of Saturday's match against Fulham.
