The Carolina Panthers' defensive shift under interim coordinator Todd Wash could bring out the best in rookie cornerback Will Lee III.
Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales promoted Todd Wash to defensive coordinator following the dismissal of Ejiro Evero. Writer Imari Burris argues that while Canales framed the change as an effort to improve run defense, Wash's scheme could substantially elevate the team's pass coverage and benefit cornerback Will Lee III.
Burris suggests Wash's physical, press-heavy Cover 3 approach suits Lee's collegiate strengths at Texas A&M. The fourth-round rookie has recorded seven pass breakups across four starts, and the analysis indicates pressing at the line may reduce his vulnerability to deep explosive plays.
