Detroit missed the postseason and served as sellers at the trade deadline, making offensive additions an offseason priority. Arraez, an elite contact hitter entering his age-30 season, is projected to provide steady production at second base or designated hitter.

Arraez carries strong credentials as a three-time batting champion, four-time All-Star, and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner. However, Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris previously indicated the organization plans to focus primarily on internal player development rather than building heavily through free agency, using market signings primarily to supplement their core.
