Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez could make a surprise return to action against Sunderland just three weeks after suffering a broken jaw and concussion. The 34-year-old was injured during a collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in a 2-0 victory. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso revealed that Martinez has trained all week using a protective mask and has cleared medical concussion protocols.
Alonso will make a final evaluation after Saturday's training session before deciding whether to reinstate Martinez or stick with backup keeper Mike Penders. Meanwhile, midfielder Moises Caicedo is expected to miss Sunday's match after experiencing fresh discomfort following a recent game, having missed parts of the season with a calf issue.
