The Story in 60 Seconds

The Washington Nationals have agreed to a four-year, $23 million contract extension with center fielder Jacob Young, which also includes a fifth-year club option. Nationals executive Paul Toboni finalized the agreement following an offensive breakthrough by Young during the 2026 season.

The contract structure buys out all of Young's arbitration years and at least one free-agent year, similar to Cade Cavalli's recent deal. After working with Driveline, Young reduced his ground-ball rate to 39.4% in 2026, hitting .252 with a .708 OPS and a career-high 10 home runs.
