Alphonso Davies’ attacking evolution at Bayern continues with intriguing trip to Mainz

Alphonso Davies is thriving in an advanced attacking role for Bayern Munich under manager Vincent Kompany ahead of their upcoming Bundesliga fixture against Mainz. Injuries to Luis Díaz and Serge Gnabry prompted Kompany to deploy Davies on the wing. The Canadian international recently scored against Arsenal in the Champions League and added a goal and an assist in a 6-1 DFB-Pokal victory over Magdeburg.

Bayern Munich enter Saturday's match at MEWA Arena unbeaten at the top of the Bundesliga table with 18 points. Despite ninth-placed Mainz losing their last three matches across all competitions, Bayern have struggled at Mainz in recent years, suffering four defeats in their previous six league visits.
