Arsenal are helping fund a university project examining how players learn tactics, with the research prompted by a question from the men’s first team.

Arsenal are helping fund a four-year research project at Halmstad University in Sweden to investigate how players absorb and retain tactical information. The study was initiated following a specific question raised by Arsenal's men's first team regarding how effectively coaching sessions and tactical instructions can be structured. The initiative examines methods across elite football and ice hockey, evaluating video analysis and team meetings.
The research is led by doctoral researcher Frauke Kubischta and supervised by Professor Andreas Ivarsson, alongside partners including Edinburgh Napier University and the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. Direct research involving Arsenal is scheduled for 2027, with the broader findings intended to aid coach education and improve instruction retention.
