AC Milan defender Koni De Winter has withdrawn from Belgium international duty ahead of the upcoming break due to a lack of playing time. The 24-year-old spent Belgium's last nine matchday squads as an unused substitute and has not played since a June friendly against Croatia. Belgium manager Mark van Bommel confirmed the decision following a phone call with the player.
Van Bommel warned that De Winter's withdrawal will carry long-term consequences for his international career. Despite his struggles with Belgium, De Winter has started all 14 matches for AC Milan this season under manager Ruben Amorim, who joined the Italian club after leaving Manchester United.
