Kristaps Porzingis issued a major statement about his Warriors future after Golden State reportedly withheld his salary.

Kristaps Porzingis announced he is stepping away from basketball to prioritize his health, addressing his status following reports that the Golden State Warriors stopped paying his salary. In a statement on X, the 31-year-old center stated his physical recovery had not progressed as expected. While expressing a desire to work with the franchise toward a resolution, Porzingis did not confirm whether his departure is temporary or a permanent retirement.
The development comes after reports revealed Golden State withheld payments on Porzingis' $20 million salary, citing an inability to fulfill contractual obligations due to his absence since training camp. Porzingis signed a two-year, $40 million extension in the offseason, which currently still counts against the team's salary cap while the front office explores potential trade scenarios.
