Second-year Hawks big man Asa Newell will be reevaluated in about two weeks after suffering a left great toe hyperextension during Wednesday’s win in Washington, the team announced today (via Twitter). Being checked out again in two weeks doesn’t mean…

Atlanta Hawks big man Asa Newell and two-way guard Keshon Gilbert are both facing multi-week absences due to injuries. Newell will be reevaluated in approximately two weeks after hyperextending his left great toe during Wednesday's victory over the Washington Wizards. Meanwhile, Gilbert underwent a non-surgical procedure on Thursday to treat inflammation in his left knee and will be reevaluated in about six weeks.
Newell's absence further thins Atlanta's frontcourt rotation, which is already managing injuries to Jalen Johnson, Jock Landale, Mouhamed Gueye, and Henri Veesaar. Johnson and Landale were both ruled out for Friday's rematch against Washington, marking their third consecutive missed games. Newell has averaged 3.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game across five appearances this season.
