Talented mare Aardiebytheseaside (Downbytheseaside) showed a welcome return to form by leading all the way to win the Group 2 $100,000 Barbagello Norms Daughter Mares classic at Gloucester Park on Friday evening. Aardiebytheseaside hadn’t won since April and her form…
Aardiebytheseaside secured an upset victory in the Norms Daughter Mares Classic, winning first-up despite not having won a race since April. Driven to the front early by Deni Roberts from a favorable draw, the mare trained by Team Bond established control of the race and held off late challengers down the stretch.
Roberts managed a 30.3-second opening quarter before lifting the pace with subsequent splits of 28.8 and 27.6 seconds to break clear on the final bend. Although tiring in the final 50 meters, Aardiebytheseaside held on to defeat favorite Delightful Peg and third-place Beetastic.
