The Story in 60 Seconds

Pinhole secured Melbourne Cup qualification by winning the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington by 2¾ lengths. The $2.60 favorite, trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald, pulled clear of outsiders Manzor Blue and Torranzino after overtaking early leader Defiantly at the 300-meter mark.

The victory came after the UK import narrowly missed the Melbourne Cup field by finishing 25th in the order of entry for the 24-horse race. Waller noted that the gelding is a promising stayer, with connections now planning a targeted path toward next year's Cup.
