The Story in 60 Seconds

Aberdeen midfielder Findlay Marshall believes being told he could leave the club by former manager Jimmy Thelin ultimately spurred his development. The 20-year-old was loaned to Arbroath in 2025 after being informed by Peter Leven and Steven Gunn that he was surplus to requirements. Marshall used the setback as motivation, helping Arbroath reach the promotion play-offs and earning a PFA Young Player of the Year nomination.

Following his loan spell, Marshall signed a new contract at Pittodrie under sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel and new manager Stephen Robinson. Now an established squad regular and a recent Scotland U21 call-up, the midfielder is targeting a crucial league victory over Hibernian to help ease pressure on Robinson.
