Nelson Asofa-Solomona – at 201 centimetres and 137 kilograms – is a man who, if so inclined, can inflict serious damage. With much power comes much responsibility.
Writer Adrian Proszenko argues that Nelson Asofa-Solomona crossed concerning boundaries during and after his boxing victory over Paul Gallen at Sydney's TikTok Entertainment Centre. Asofa-Solomona stopped Gallen with multiple unanswered punches, several of which landed while Gallen was already incapacitated against the ropes. Following the conclusion of the bout, Asofa-Solomona vaulted out of the ring toward a spectator and prepared to punch them before pulling back at the last second.
Asofa-Solomona apologized for the ringside altercation, explaining he was provoked by a spectator's racist ape gesture, an incident now under NSW Police investigation. While Gallen stated he had no issue with the stoppage, Proszenko contends that Asofa-Solomona's out-of-ring conduct warrants scrutiny, noting the boxer risks a ban alongside the alleged offending spectator.
