Nelson Asofa-Solomona – at 201 centimetres and 137 kilograms – is a man who, if so inclined, can inflict serious damage. With much power comes much responsibility.
Adrian Proszenko criticizes the violent scenes at Sydney's TikTok Entertainment Centre following Nelson Asofa-Solomona's boxing bout against Paul Gallen. Asofa-Solomona stopped Gallen with a flurry of unanswered punches, including late blows delivered while Gallen was trapped on the ropes. Following the fight, Asofa-Solomona leaped out of the ring and nearly threw a punch at a spectator before aborting the blow.
Asofa-Solomona apologized for the incident, explaining he reacted after a spectator directed a racist ape gesture at him, a matter currently under investigation by NSW Police. Proszenko argues that while racial abuse warrants a long ban, Asofa-Solomona's outside-the-ring conduct raises serious concerns.
