Bleed Cubbie Blue editor Al Yellon ranks former pitcher Warren Hacker as the 99th best player in Chicago Cubs history. Acquired via a minor-league trade in 1948, the Illinois native recorded 13.5 bWAR across nine seasons with the franchise, highlighted by a breakout 1952 campaign where he posted a 15-9 record and a league-leading 0.958 WHIP.

Following that peak, Hacker struggled with home runs, setting a franchise record by allowing 38 in 1955 before being traded to Cincinnati after the 1956 season. After pitching stints with the Phillies and White Sox, Hacker transitioned to minor-league coaching prior to his death in 2002.
