Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas is reportedly prepared to explore trades and potentially alter the team's roster quickly. According to reporting from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, moves could happen rapidly following the team's sluggish start to the season, which includes just two regulation wins in 16 games. Dubas is said to be seeking high draft picks or ready-to-play prospects in return for available players.
Several veteran players possess varying degrees of contract movement protection that could impact negotiations. Erik Karlsson holds a full no-movement clause, while Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Rickard Rakell hold modified trade protection clauses. Conversely, forward Bryan Rust has no trade protection remaining following the expiration of his clause in July 2025.
