Former super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch has revealed that legendary Kazakh middleweight Gennady Golovkin would have presented a tough challenge during his career. Speaking on his Froch on Fighting YouTube channel, Froch recalled a conversation with trainer Rob McCracken discussing how difficult a matchup against Golovkin would have been. Froch noted that while Golovkin may not have been big enough, he was a formidable puncher.
Froch, who retired in 2014, previously held multiple world titles across memorable battles with opponents like Mikkel Kessler and George Groves. Golovkin compiled a storied career from 2006 to 2022, securing 20 middleweight title defenses and losing only twice across 45 bouts, both against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
